I do not know what like “cool” Tumblr etiquette is but I saw this as an answer to a question someone asked Leftybegone and I really, really wanted to reblog it. There’s no reblog feature on asks so I took a screencap.
It was brilliant. This guy puts into words so much better the things I want to say.
(If you’d like it taken down just shoot me a MSG, Leftybegone.)
I don’t understand how you can’t see how hypocritical a response this is, considering pro-lifers are equally as guilty of using scaremongering.
When I think of “back alley abortions” I think of women* putting foreign objects in their body through their vaginal canal in hopes of causing an abortion, most likely in their home. I imagine women* throwing themselves down a flight of stairs or two, again most likely in their home. I imagine them getting in fights, punching themselves in the stomach, having their spouse or boyfriend or partner beat them up. I imagine women* going to extreme measures to be rid of the fetus growing inside her* and all of this, I imagine, is going on in their own homes. When all else fails, I imagine them going to some shady hollistic healer or a “doctor’s office” out in the boonies to have a very unsafe, illegal operation which could result in death.I don’t imagine women* going down an alley in the city with a clothes hanger, squatting beside a dumpster, and proceed to place the hanger in their vaginal canal. Though, I’m sure this happens to some, I really doubt this is the norm for “back alley abortions.” It’s just a phrase. I don’t think it’s “scaremongering” or “terrifying.”
Of course.
Yes, of course. It’s horrible what these women* will result to if people like leftybegone and other anti-choicers get what they wish and have abortions illegal. Those actions that they’ll resort to are scary and terrifying. The TRUTH of what will happen to these women* if abortion is illegal is scary. The ILLUSION that these women* will go to alleys is a scary LIE. I’d rather people know the scary truth than a lie.
But that’s just me.
You’re not understanding the point. The point is that the “back-alley abortion” argument is stupid and all it is designed to do is play to people’s feelings. It has no substantial basis.
That’s like saying because murder is illegal, people are just going to murder anyway, wouldn’t it be better if they had a medically safe way to do it like an injection or something? At least then it wouldn’t be violent and brutal and result in unnecessary deaths. Look at all the cops who die every year, wouldn’t it be better if we just let people kill who they wanted in a safely mandated environment?
Like, sorry the consequence for killing people sucks so much, but I’m not exactly falling all over myself to care. That is their choice to do and their risk to take. Just like you take a risk when you walk into a crowded building with a loaded gun that you may end up shot and killed because of your own stupidity. Death is sad regardless of who it happens to or why, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore common sense.
Scaremongering is exactly what it is. The only thing the “back-alley abortion” argument is designed to do is stimulate poor liberal feels. What about the poor oppressed womyns who will have to yank out 40 week old babies from their snatch covered in blood and then die?!?!
And look at all the evul conservativez who don’t care liek omg wat aboot da womensy!!!!!!! She made herself get beat up and thrown down the stairs and punched a hole through her own stomach and grabbed her intestines and ate them and ripped out her own heart and etcetera, ectetera!
The only thing that back-alley argument is meant to convey is that because the mother can choose to do something stupid like self-abort, we should therefore not care about abortion at all, despite the fact that it is killing and it is morally wrong. Sorry, people have shitty consequences for doing shitty things all the time. It’s not going to make me stop believing that killing is wrong and people shouldn’t do it.
I’m sorry that common sense apparently is too difficult for you liberals to deal with.
Although abortion isn’t killing. The fetus is not a live and it is not a “baby.” It is a fetus. The women that need abortions for medical reasons just need to suck it up and deal with the pregnancy and risk death upon delivery? Sure. Totally.
I’ve got plenty of common sense and I’m pretty open minded. That trait is very rare amongst conservatives. Good try though, d00d.

Probably because I am not a batshit insane collectivist, unlike a few people I know.
If you use the term “back-alley abortion”, you are scaremongering. Please point me in the direction of a time where I have used a scaremongering tactic. Please, in fact, point me in the direction of a time where Leftybegone’s post mentioned anything about “all” pro-abortionists using scaremongering tactics.
Oh, what? It’s not there? Not anywhere? Really?
You’re an idiot.
He defined the phrase as what it is intended to be: A fearmongering and intellectually deceitful phrase. He then said that Mstrimmer specifically was using it and that he found her use of it dishonest and despicable.
Are you really this fucking stupid? My god.
I don’t care what “all” pro-abortionists or “all” pro-lifers do. Unlike most liberals, I take responsibility for my own self.
I posted a message that outlined the real meaning behind the term “back-alley abortion” and agreed that the term was scaremongering.
Nowhere did I state that pro-lifers do not use scaremongering terms, and equally, nowhere have I used such terms.
The only thing anyone has been able to come up with is “well OMG pro-lifers bomb buildings LOL!” Yeah, I totally blow up buildings every day.
I wear T-shirts with giant aborted fetuses all over them. I have a big mangled fetus tattooed on my forehead. I yell at women walking to abortion clinics and throw eggs at them.
Because clearly, I do everything that every pro-lifer has ever done, ever. And clearly, every single pro-abortionist does everything every other pro-abortionist does as well. Yes. Obviously.
(In short, fuck off.)
And then, a few posts down, you said:Thanks for talking to me, i still believe all women should have access to abortion but im glad to of talked to someone who has actually thought through ways to make abortions the less desirable option instead of telling me im going to hell. :)No problem. Telling people to go to hell is pretty counterproductive IMO. Have a nice day. c:
Pretty much the same thing, “IMO.”
It’s not the same thing at all. My point to that anon was that it is ridiculous to insist that people are “going to hell” for “being sinners” because that is not a substantial argument.
Because coming to my blog and asking legitimate questions without being an asshole is the exact same thing as calling me hypocritical by making a retarded point that makes no sense.
Continuing to have zero argument for me beyond “Yeh well ur st00pid lolz!!!!”, I would like to clear up what I wrote, just so it’s perfectly clear that you understand what I meant in case you might have been offended:
lollerskatez, bro. alrighty.
I love this movie and my husband thinks I’m insane for it. I don’t care!
